Credit Card Bankruptcy

Credit card debt is one of the easiest kinds of debt to get approved for and even easier to build fast.  Credit cards are so easy to use whenever it's convenient and you can just as easily only pay the minimum payment each month.  The interest rates are so high that, before you know it, the debt is growing at a very rapid rate and you just can't handle it.

If you have a lot of credit card debt, you may probably consider declaring credit card bankruptcy.  Basically, you will just have to declare regular bankruptcy.  You could refer to it as declaring "credit card bankruptcy" but it would be no different than regular bankruptcy.

How do you get into this Mess?

The above situation is common among those in credit card debt.  There are many causes to this kind of messy situation.  Ultimately, they all stem from irresponsibility as a result of not being properly educated and disciplined in financial management.

In school, financial responsibility is not taught. You can't take a class called Finance in high school like you can match, science, English, etc. it is unfortunate because so much of the many problems in our country are a result of the lack of financial education.

If you don't know how to properly manage your money, it increases the chances that you end up in credit card debt. You take out some credit cards in high school and college, pay for everything including things you shouldn't buy, and before you know it you're in credit card debt. Maybe it doesn't phase you and you just keep racking up the debt with more credit cards, car loans, student loans, etc.

Eventually you aren't able to pay. Even the lowest minimum payments are too much to handle. This is when you consider declaring credit card bankruptcy. This is when things get really hard and stressful. Creditors harass you on the phone every evening and you just can't manage it.

Of course, the best solution is prevention. If you had a manager money correctly from the start, it would make things a lot easier. Unfortunately, most people still get into this situation and are not able to manage. Bankruptcy might be the answer, but it might not.

Is Credit Card Bankruptcy the Right Choice?

It all depends on your particular situation and whether or not you're going to change. If you have a few thousand dollars in debt, bankruptcy is probably not for you. You should be able to manage that debt, even if it means downgrading your lifestyle. Of course, there are still other factors to consider.

If you are in tens of thousands of dollars of debt over $100,000 in debt and you figured declaring credit card bankruptcy will make life easier and then you can go back to spending as you are, bankruptcy is also not for you. Maybe in the future it will be, but right now you need some serious help.

In situations monitor your control or in the case that you have a lot of debt and you are willing to change but you need some help, bankruptcy may be the answer. Again, it is going to depend on the individual and their situation. Don't take this decision lightly. Talk with your lawyer and financial advisor and think about it.

What Alternatives do you have to Credit Card Bankruptcy?

There are other alternatives. The main alternative is to pay off the debt. You can help to pay off your debt by consolidating loans with lower interest rates, but ultimately you will need to pay down that debt.

You need to learn how to correctly manage your money and set up a budget. Most likely, you'll have to downgrade your lifestyle. This may even mean moving into a cheaper house or even an apartment. You have to be serious about this and understand that it is not forever. Once you get hold of your finances, you'll be in charge of your future.

What if you do Declare Bankruptcy?

As I already mentioned, in some situations declaring bankruptcy is the right choice. If you have thought long and hard about this and gotten advice from others and still decides to declare bankruptcy, you'll need to make sure you're taking the right steps.

While you don't need a lawyer, a lawyer can help you a lot. It is highly recommended that you get one help you out. He can help you through the process of filing the petition, help you through the meeting of creditors, help you organize your debt, and help you with anything else you may need.
