Microwave Cookware

The microwave was an incredible invention, wouldn't you say? It allows us to reheat or even cook with ease, speed, and simplicity. Once the microwave came about, we needed to find ways to make an already incredibly efficient machine even more efficient. We can do this with the tools we use to cook on it.

There is a lot of microwave cookware out there to use. Some might sound too good to be true, and most are. Honestly, if it sounds like something that could never work, it probably is. If it's cheap, you could always give it a try, otherwise, don't waste your time or hard earned money.

What are some common microwave cookware items you could use? Of course the most obvious is to use something to reheat. Before you put anything into the microwave, make sure it is microwave-safe. Never put anything metal in the microwave, even if it's just a piece of foil. It will start to spark and could start a fire, especially if unattended.

Try not to microwave food in storage containers. These are normally made to store in the refrigerator and it is thought that some of the chemicals from the plastic could more easily get into your food this way. Use microwave-safe porcelain and glass, or other types.

There are lots of pieces of microwave cookware that are made especially for microwaves. Look to the right for more. I highly recommend reheating options that are covered so that you don't splatter food all over the microwave. For example, you can get a microwave dinner cookware set that is used like a plate with sections, but keeps your food covered.

You may have seen some of those pasta cookers advertised on television. These could work well if used right, but you will need to test and experiment with it if you want to get similar results as with a pot of boiling water on the stove.

They even have microwave poppers available! This is a great healthy alternative to using the buttered bag microwave popcorn. You could leave out the butter, flavor it with something else, or make sure you put real butter on it.

If you aren't much of a cooker, getting a nice set of microwave cookware is a great idea. You could get some simple ideas to start making your own easy meals with your microwave. Look around and educate yourself on the topic and you could learn a lot.  You'd be surprised at what you could cook in the microwave such as potatoes, eggs, meat, pasta, etc.

If you just like to use the microwave to reheat, that's good too. You could find some good microwave cookware sets that give you all you need.

Cleaning your Microwave

Is Microwave Cookware Really a Timesaver?

Microwaves were invented for both ease and speed of cooking.  They are most often used for reheating food, which is probably mostly what you use it for.  Using microwaves to cook food hasn't exactly been a success, but no with microwave cookware, it is possible.

Once you throw special cookware into the mix, is it still faster and easier?  I will say yes.  Even with special cookware options, it's not always going to come out perfect as though you used a stove or oven, but most often it will be faster and easier.

Microwaves make cooking things like baked potatoes and steaming vegetables faster than if you used the stove or oven.  Also, there is less preparation time.  For example, most people will watch, prick, and cover the potato with foil whereas in the microwave you can skip the foil step.  In fact you MUST skip the foil step if you don't want to break your microwave or potentially start a fire.

If you are looking to save time with dinner, the microwave and microwave cookware may be able to help.  If you want your food to come out well, you should use a recipe designed for the microwave.  Below you can find all sorts of books on microwave cooking.

You also need to keep in mind that it's still going to take time to prepare the food to be cooked.  You need to factor this in if you are looking to save time.  That is why I really recommend picking up a cookbook with instructions for this type of cooking.  It can really help out with planning and help you find meals that still taste great even though they've been cooked in the microwave.

Get some of your own microwave cookware and things get even easier.  That's why it was designed, right?
